About this design
What the design shows
The sword points straight upward, its blade occupying most of the design height. A thick outer contour tapers to a narrow tip, while long interior strokes suggest the blade faces and leave broad unfilled strips between them. Near the base, a dark central shape rises from the guard into the blade. The crossguard curves gently upward at its middle and finishes in flared rounded ends. Thin parallel lines trace the arms of the guard, contrasting with the dark grip beneath it. Short diagonal light breaks cross that grip like wrapping, bounded by small horizontal collars. A flared pommel with a curved lower edge closes the bottom. Everything is rendered in black linework and solid accents, without a colored fill or surrounding decoration. On the back, the point begins below the nape and the handle descends toward mid-back along the spine.

Placement and size
Running down the spine, the previewed sword is much longer than a palm, with a narrow blade and a modest crossguard width. The same lengthwise arrangement could work on the calf, outer forearm or sternum after checking proportions. Reducing its height compresses the grip wrapping first; shortening only the blade changes the overall balance. Mark the blade tip, guard center and pommel on the stencil so the vertical line can be checked together.
Patchwork
Building it into a patchwork
The sword makes a tall dividing line through a back patchwork, with most of its dark weight concentrated below the blade. Separate pieces can build on either side while leaving the long blade channels visually open. Compact shields or spare botanical sprigs would echo its outline without extending the weapon. Reserve more space beside the crossguard than beside the blade, and keep other long vertical objects far enough away to read independently.
Small pieces that pair with it
- A small outlined shield beside the grip
- A short thorn sprig outside one crossguard end
- A tiny four-point spark above the blade tip
For your artist
Notes for your tattoo artist
- 01Check the blade alignment along the spine before transferring the full stencil.
- 02Maintain an open strip on each side of the blade details.
- 03Decide how many grip wrapping marks remain at the chosen scale.
