How to choose a tattoo font
Start with the feeling of the words. Flowing scripts suit names and love notes, Old English and gothic letters read bold and traditional, and clean capitals or a typewriter face keep dates and quotes plain.
Then check how it reads. Type the exact words, including dots or slashes in a date, and look at the smallest letters: thin scripts with tight loops are harder to read than open, rounder ones.
- Script and cursive: names, short words, soft and personal
- Old English and gothic: bold, traditional, strong contrast
- Typewriter and roman capitals: dates, coordinates, quotes
- Marker and brush scripts: hand-made, casual feel
