About this design
What the design shows
Two hollow bands loop through each other to make a wide, diamond-like knot. Each band is drawn as a pair of parallel black lines with clear skin between them, so the knot reads as ribbons rather than strokes. The bands cross over and under at the center, and the crossing points are cut cleanly so you can follow which band sits on top. At the upper right, the ends of the bands lift and curl into two small wave crests, one taller than the other, which turns an abstract knot into a reference to water. The left and right tips are pointed, giving the whole shape a horizontal, slightly tilted direction. There is no shading or color. On the wrist preview the knot is placed sideways across the inner wrist, with its long axis running across the arm, and it fills about half the wrist's width.

Placement and size
The preview sets it across the inner wrist, below the palm crease, with the long axis running from thumb side to little-finger side. The design is wider than it is tall, so it also fits the side of the ankle, the back of the neck under a hairline, or the top of the foot. At wrist size the double lines need enough skin between them to stay apart; going smaller usually means switching to single lines.
Patchwork
Building it into a patchwork
The knot is compact and closed, with crisp edges, so it holds its own between larger pieces without spreading into them. Its horizontal shape balances vertical neighbors such as stems, daggers or arrows placed above or below it. The open space inside the bands keeps its visual weight low to medium. Leave a clear gap around the wave crests so they still read as waves and not as stray hooks from a nearby design.
Small pieces that pair with it
- A small fine-line seashell
- Three short parallel wave lines
- A tiny anchor outline
- A single dot placed off the wave tip
For your artist
Notes for your tattoo artist
- 01Keep the two lines of each band parallel and evenly spaced across the whole knot.
- 02Check which band crosses on top at each intersection before the stencil goes on.
- 03The wave crests are the smallest curves; ask whether they need to be enlarged slightly.
- 04A slightly bolder line than the preview may help the double outline hold up on the wrist.
