About this design
What the design shows
A skull in three-quarter view faces left, with a large rounded cranium, a grinning row of teeth, and deep green sockets around the eye and nasal opening. Mustard-gold panels curve across the brow, temple, cheek, and jaw, while short white highlights interrupt the heavier color blocks. A visible crack branches through the right side of the crown. Two red roses frame the skull on a diagonal: one opens behind the upper left of the cranium and another rests at the lower right beside the jaw. Dark green serrated leaves extend behind both flowers, pointing past the skull's outline. The composition uses thick black borders, flat red, green, ochre, and cream fills, plus only small areas of dark shading. It reads as one compact oval rather than a wide chest spread. On the preview it is centered high on the chest, about palm-sized, beneath the collarbones.

Placement
Placement and size
In the on-skin image, the skull sits in the upper chest center with the rose pair running from upper left to lower right. The compact diagonal works just as well on the outer forearm, calf, shoulder cap, or upper back. It needs at least palm-sized space for the teeth, eye socket, and layered rose petals to remain distinct. If scaled down, simplify the tooth divisions and keep the crown crack broader instead of retaining every short line.
Patchwork
Building it into a patchwork
The solid colors and thick outline give this design heavy visual weight, even though its footprint is compact. It makes a strong focal piece in a traditional chest, shoulder, or lower-leg grouping. Neighbors with matching black outlines, such as a dagger, swallow, dice, or small heart, will hold up beside it. Put narrow pieces along the rose diagonal rather than pressing another round design into the leaf edges. Leave a slim skin channel around the leaves so the dark green shapes still separate from adjacent flash.
Small pieces that pair with it
- A small red heart beneath the lower rose
- A black traditional candle beside the upper leaves
- A tiny gold horseshoe near the jaw
- A three-dot sparkle above the cracked crown
For your artist
Notes for your tattoo artist
- 01Keep the skull teeth as separate cream shapes with a firm black divider.
- 02Match the two rose reds while leaving their petal folds readable.
- 03Retain the crown crack as a broad broken line, not a hairline scratch.
- 04Confirm the diagonal rose direction against the chest before applying the stencil.
