About this design
What the design shows
One olive branch rises from a single stem that starts low and slightly left, then bends gently to the right as it climbs. Roughly fifteen narrow, pointed leaves grow off it in loose pairs, each drawn as a closed outline with one center vein running down its length. Near the upper right, one leaf is folded back on itself, which breaks the regular rhythm and keeps the sprig from looking stamped. There is no shading, dotwork or fill anywhere: the whole design is a single medium-weight black line on open skin. The leaves stay separate from one another, with small gaps of skin between them, so the silhouette reads as an airy, upright spray rather than a dense cluster. On the wrist preview the branch sits just below the palm crease, running along the length of the arm, and it takes up only the central third of the wrist's width.

Placement
Placement and size
The preview places it on the inner wrist, upright, starting a few fingers below the palm crease. At that spot the branch is roughly the length of a thumb, which keeps every leaf outline open enough to read. Because the shape is tall and narrow, it also suits the inner forearm, the side of the ankle or the back of the neck. Avoid shrinking it below wrist size: the leaf veins are the first detail to close up.
Patchwork
Building it into a patchwork
In a patchwork layout this is a light piece: thin outline, no fill and plenty of skin inside the silhouette. Its vertical direction gives a cluster something to line up against, so it works well between two heavier pieces as a breathing gap. Keep at least a finger width of clear skin around the outermost leaves. Next to bold traditional work it can look faint, so pair it with other fine-line or minimalist outlines of similar weight.
Small pieces that pair with it
- A tiny crescent moon outline
- Three small dots in a short line
- A fine-line sun with short rays
- A single small leaf drifting off the stem
For your artist
Notes for your tattoo artist
- 01Keep one even line weight; the design has no shading to hide wobbles.
- 02Hold the gaps between leaves open so the branch does not fill in over time.
- 03Decide with your artist whether the folded leaf near the top stays or becomes a plain leaf.
- 04Ask whether the stem curve should follow your wrist tendons or sit straight.
